What is the the maximum square foot span of installation before requiring a transition strip?

The limit on the continuous span before having to use a transition strip for all Homestead Flooring JetCore and JetCore XL products is 100 ft. x 100' ft. Homestead Flooring is proud to provide this advanced technology flooring to our consumers.


Can Homestead Flooring planks be installed over carpet?

No, our Homestead flooring planks cannot be installed over carpet. As with all Unilin™ Licensed click angle/angle technology our flooring planks must be installed over a smooth, hard surface flooring or a substrate, free of deflection. Installing our floors over carpet will void the Homestead Flooring factory warranty. 


Is it OK to install Kitchen cabinet lowers or island cabinets on top of Homestead Flooring planks?

No, it is not ok to install kitchen cabinets over-top of Homestead Flooring. We suggest to install kitchen cabinets before installing our Homestead Flooring planks. This includes kitchen islands. Our flooring is meant to be used as a floating floor. The weight of the cabinetry and counter top could over-time potentially cause damage to the integrity of the click mechanism of the floor. Installing cabinetry over-top the flooring planks will void the factory limited warranty. 


Are color variations possible from one product run to another?

Homestead Flooring planks from time to time may have slight color variations between production runs. These variations, although infrequent, can be more noticeable in lighter shades. When using lighter tone shades, it is best to check the production run number, which is indicated on the label on the short side/(end) of the carton. If you find that you have cartons from different production runs, it is highly recommended that you open 5-6 cartons and install a mix of planks from each different production run. Continuing to use planks from multiple boxes as the installation goes along. This will result in a more natural looking floor.

Can Homestead Flooring planks be installed in a non climate controlled environment?

No, our Homestead Flooring plank cannot be installed in a non climate-controlled environment. Homestead Flooring planks are intended strictly for indoor use in a climate controlled environment. Post installation temperature must be maintained between 55˚and 85˚ F.

What does the ASTM Test Data really mean?

ASTM F3261 is an American test standard for resilient flooring that limits thickness swell to a maximum of 2% for products without an attached backing and 5% for products with an attached backing. To be considered waterproof, a product must pass this test method and not exceed the swell limit. However, waterproof declarations usually only cover the product and not the installation.

Daily Maintenance

 We suggest using a floor cleaner and microfiber mop to clean your vinyl floors. This daily clean helps to remove dust and debris buildup that can develop over time. Avoid using a traditional mop and bucket since it’s easy to spread excess water on the luxury vinyl flooring. Excess liquids can get into the seams and edges of the floor and may warp vinyl planks, if not cleaned immediately.  

Weekly Maintenance

 To keep a well maintained floor, you’ll need to do a more thorough cleaning about once a week. First, we suggest to vacuum or dry mop the floor to remove dust, hair and dirt. Then you’re ready to move on to a wet mop like the Bona Mop, and a cleaning solution.

ASTM F3261

ASTM F2199-20

4.1 The final appearance of an installed floor depends upon several factors. These include but are not limited to size and squareness in the case of tiles/planks, the quality of joint cut, the quality and preparation of the subfloor and the skill of the installer. Long term appearance of the installed floor is also dependent on but not limited to the ability of the tile/plank to resist shrinkage due to internal stress relief. This test method is used to measure the ability of the floor to retain its original dimensions following exposure to heat, simulating a long service life at reasonable and expected temperatures

ASTM F 1514

This test method covers a procedure for determining the resistance of resilient floor covering to color change from exposure to elevated temperature over a specified period of time. The Delta E is listed to show the color value change resulting from each exposure. 

ASTM F 1515

This test method provides a means of measuring the amount of color change in flooring products when subjected to accelerated light exposure over a period of time (functional use of the flooring product).The Delta E is listed to show the color value change resulting from each exposure. 

ASTM F C1028

Standard Test Method for Determining the Static Coefficient of Friction of Ceramic Tile and Other Like Surfaces by the Horizontal Dynamometer Pull-Meter Method. Essentially, a Slip Resistance Test. This test method covers the measurement of static coefficient of friction of ceramic tile or other surfaces under both wet and dry conditions while utilizing Neolite heel assemblies. 

ASTM F925

The Standard Test Method for Resistance to Chemicals of Resilient Flooring. This test method provides a procedure for determining the resistance of resilient floor covering to surface deterioration when exposed to various chemical reagents. This test method is not intended as a staining test nor as a method to judge surface and appearance restoration of the sample after exposure to the chemical reagent.

NALFA 3.1

This test measures the ability of LVT flooring to resist residual indentation resulting from a static load. This test results in the measured residual indentation. 

NALFA 3.2

This test measures the ability of LVT flooring to resist increase in thickness after being exposed to water. The thickness swell is calculated as a percentage of the original thickness.

NALFA 3.4

This test measures both the ease of cleanability and stain resistance of LVT flooring to common household substances. The staining agents are removed and graded by the ease of removal procedure. Test uses cleaning agents scaling from 0-4; (0) water, (1) mild detergent, (2) baking soda with brush, (3) acetone, and (4) bleach. This test results in a cleanability score as well as which reagents caused a slight, moderate, or severe effect on the specimen finish. 

NALFA 3.5

This test measures the ability of LVT flooring to resist fracture due to impact by a large diameter ball. This test results in a maximum height for three replicate impacts that do not result in a fracture or crack in the flooring. 

NALFA 3.6

This test measures the ability of LVT flooring to resist fracture due to impact by a small diameter ball. Testing involves dropping a small diameter ball (25 grams) onto surface. Drops are conducted in incremental heights until the surface of the material is fractured.

NALFA 3.7

This test measures the ability of LVT flooring to resist abrasive wear through the décor layer (Wear Resistance). A test specimen is abraded using a dual head rotary platform Taber abrader. The initial point of wear is listed as the number of cycles completed at which visible evidence, via Tappi size chart, is noticed in 3 of 4 quadrants of the test specimen. The abrasion media is S-42 sand paper.

NALFA Resource

Prior to earning the NALFA Certification Seal, laminate floors must pass a series of 14 rigorous performance tests. An independent laboratory completes the testing and submits the results to the NALFA board for final approval. Only then may a product bear the certification seal.
